"I recommend....bread, meat, vegetables and beer."
--Sophocles (on a moderate diet) |
We find this to be a good quote for December with everyone talking about going on a diet after the Thanksgiving dinner they just had and with New Year's resolutions sneaking up on us all. In our opinion, Sophocles' got the right idea about bringing beer into your diet. We here at Red Brick strive to do this daily!
Red Brick Brewing Company was founded in September of 1993. At Red Brick, we take pride in our brewing tradition. We are also proud of our people. Red Brick is a team of 14 individuals, each one dedicated to producing and delivering a positive craft beer experience. We'd like to take a moment to introduce you to three team members, Garett Lockhart (Head Brewer), Jon Hummel (Production Manager) and Steve Anderson (our newest brewer).
|
Steve Anderson -- Red Brick's newest brewer standing next to our state of the art grain mill. |
Steve Anderson is Red Brick Brewing Company's newest brewer. Steve joined Red Brick in late October 2012. He came to us after 2 years as a manager at the Brewmasters warehouse in Marietta, GA. During those 2 years, Steve was also involved in collaboration brewing with Burnt Hickory, a local brewery in Kennesaw GA. Steve grew up in the Atlanta area, and then ventured out to Boulder, Colorado to become a Park Ranger. That did not pan out for him, but being in the brewing Mecca of Colorado exposed Steve to craft beer. He began home brewing and his passion for beer only grew. In addition to his love for brewing, Steve brings a wealth of brewing experience and knowledge. According to Hannah, our Sales/Marketing coordinator, word on the street is that Steve was involved in brewing a "Carrot Cake" beer that was pretty tasty. We welcome Steve's brewing knowledge and creativity. He makes a great addition to the Red Brick Team. |

Jon Hummel has been with Red Brick Brewing Company since April 2010. He was born in Lake Charles, Louisiana but raised in New Jersey, close to Philadelphia (Go Phillies & Eagles!!!). His last role before changing careers was as Director of Contract Services for an Atlanta-area staffing company. Jon started home brewing with a friend. One day, he realized that he enjoyed it much more than his Monday through Friday Sales job and decided to turn it into a career. Jon attended Siebel Institute's Concise Course in Brewing Technology and started apprenticing with a local brewpub. Jon first joined the Red Brick team cleaning kegs, and worked his way up to his current position as Production Manager. Outside of the brewery, you will find Jon outdoors with Griffin, his German Shorthair Pointer, at a park, camping, hiking or floating down the Chattooga River (Griffin even gets his own float tube!) |
|
Garett Lockhart -- Red Brick's Head Brewer inspecting empty kegs at the brewery. |
Garett Lockhart joined Red Brick Brewing in December 2010. He was born and raised in Southern California. Being in Southern California during the West Coast craft brewing renaissance combined with an appreciation for fresh, quality ingredients are two elements that sparked his deep fascination with brewing. Before his brewing career, Garett worked in restaurants for 10 years, UPS for 4 years, and Sysco Foods for 3 years. Even with success in these jobs, his true career path kept calling to him. Garett eventually listened, and took that leap of faith to pursue his dream. He took on a 4 month apprenticeship at the Atlanta 5 Seasons brewpub in Midtown, and also attended Brew school at Siebel Institute in Chicago. He then was hired to work on Red Brick Brewing's production line. At Red Brick, Garett quickly demonstrated his brewing expertise and was promoted to a brewing position. Outside of work, Garett enjoys spending quality time with his wife, April, and daughter Ella (nearly 2 years old). He is a fan of outdoor activities such as camping and kayaking. Garett is a baseball fan, and while he cheers for the Anaheim Angels by childhood association, he has adopted the Braves as his favorite team. |
